The derailleur is an essential part of the bicycle, enabling the chain to pass over the chainrings or sprockets for gear changes. The rear derailleur places the chain on the chosen sprocket. A chain tensioning system is built into the derailleur. The function of the front derailleur is to change the position of the chain on the chainrings to select the most appropriate development.
