Vintage bicycle headsets are almost always of the plunger type: they fit inside the head tube and are locked in place by a conical wedge tightened with a screw. Made mainly of forged aluminium or chrome-plated steel, they are distinguished by their slenderness, elegant shapes and sometimes decorative engravings.
