Steel bicycle toe-clips were used to keep cyclists' feet on the pedals and prevent them from slipping. They were usually fitted with a leather strap that fastened around the cyclist's shoe. They were also popular in cycling competitions, as they allowed cyclists to apply greater force to the pedals.
